Abstract
This study aims to examine the mediating and moderating effects of self-esteem in the relationship between acculturative stress and depression of multicultural adolescents. To achieve these purposes, the Stress Process Model was set up as a theoretical framework, and 1,308 multicultural adolescents who participated in the 6th year Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study(MAPS) were used for data analysis. According to the analysis results, although the level of depression increased as the cultural stress of multicultural adolescents increased, self-esteem at this time served as an important protective factor to buffer or inhibit the negative impact of acculturative stress on depression levels. Based on the results of these analyses, this study discussed the policy and practical implications needed to approach the problem of depression caused by acculturative stress of multicultural adolescents.
